General Discussion / PodcastoCon QR Code Hunt!
« on: October 16, 2010, 10:40:57 AM »
OK.  As much as I love the wackiness that Meg and A.David get into around Luke's scavenger hunt, I'd like to have something just as competitive, but that doesn't require me to wait around for A.David and Josh to finally get up the nerve to express their love.

So, I am proposing that we do a QR Code-based scavenger hunt.

QR Codes are those square bar codes you see on UPS packages.  You can generate them with sites like this:

http://qrcode.kaywa.com/

And then read them with inexpensive or free apps on most smart phones, or using Google's free 'Google Goggles':

http://googlemobile.blogspot.com/2010/05/translate-real-world-with-google.html

You can embed a pretty large amount of text in them.  More than a tweet's worth.

I propose that we set up a cell-based system, where each cell knows two other cells, and they work together to produce a scavenger hunt in the location of their PodcastoCon.

So let's say cell 1 is Meg & Josh.  Cell 2 is A.David & Luke.  Cell 3 is Eve & Katie.

Cell 1 decides their clue will be at the Bellagio somewhere.  They work with Cell 2 to create a clue that will lead from the Bellagio to wherever Cell 2 wants them to go.  Cell 2 plants a clue that's accessible based on the Cell 1 clue, and so forth.  Cell 3 knows nothing of Cell 1.

This way all the cells are both part of the game, and can also play.

The overall coordinator gives each cell another clue, which when added to the other 'global' clues, leads to a big payout at the end.

Each cell can optionally also do a 'random' clue, which has a short-term payout, like a small gift from that cell.  They could stash these around the con hotels, rooms, etc.

The clues could require visiting places, looking things up on the internet, etc.

This all needs a bit of polishing, but it seems like it could be pretty cool.

Someone would have to have a printer available to print the codes, and stashing them at 'real' places could be tricky, but it seems possible to me....

Huh. If we did this the week before, we could go to the Adult Entertainment Expo!

Oh well, rooms would likely be more expensive that weekend anyway. :)

We'll see how much vacation K gets, maybe she and I can stay for a week.  :P

I see they have a Group event proposal; might be able to get the rate down if we can get a group block?

Definitely IN; looking back through this thread, can we have a non-forum page that lists the FINAL DECISIONS on hotel, dates, etc.?

I have edited my show on my Macbook Pro with REAPER, and under Windows with REAPER and Ableton Live.

There is an Embassy Suites by the Vegas Convention Center.  I assume they have the same happy hour deal.  :)

Plus since they are suites so lots of room to party/run games.

The cruise sounds fun, although the FtB people tend to go to that every year, if that matters to anyone.

Genghis would be great because it's 10 minutes from my house, but the hotel is bleh.

Right now, my preference is VEGAS!!!

How likely is the weather going to screw with air travel to/from Denver?

Actually pretty unlikely for Denver proper in early February.  What tends to happen is that Chicago will get shut down, so people connecting through there get hosed.  To be honest, since they built DIA, they've only had to cancel flights because of weather in Denver 3-4 times...

The Podge Cast / TPC Theme Redux
« on: April 05, 2010, 11:46:13 AM »
Greetings!

I had some time this last week to take a first pass at a 'remix' of the Podgecast Theme.

Unfortunately, since Luke doesn't have the 'stems' - e.g. the vocals separated from the music, I had to record a new pass at the vocals...which I did to try to mimic Luke's performance the best I could.

If I have time to take another pass at this, I'd re-do the vocals to better fit my take on the instrumentation, or better yet, have Luke record his own new take.

It's also a little tinny on non-subwoofer setups...I'd probably mix the bass in a little stronger if I took another pass.

 Enjoy!

Awesome!  Sounds like you had a good session!

Any thoughts on how you might make the Homonculus encounter more difficult for groups like yours like like combat a bit more?

Cheers,

Tim
