General Northmoor Discussion / Shorter Epsiodes for AP or "full"?
« on: July 31, 2009, 10:02:51 AM »
So, as I'm contemplating editing the next AP episode, I'm wondering if it would be worth releasing just the first 30 minutes of audio + our comments as the episode, rather than the full hour of audio + our comments.

I'm leaning toward shorter, since then I have to edit less all in one sitting, and we can put out episodes more regularly.  But I thought I'd see what people thought...

Thanks!

Tim

General Northmoor Discussion / Promotional Slide
« on: July 24, 2009, 11:04:57 AM »
Hey there, we have to do a promotional slide for the ENnies, but we'll likely use it in other places as well.  This is what I've put together so far...any thoughts/comments?

The black border is to pad it out to the size required by the ENnies folks...

Thanks!!

Tim

Announcements / Help us with the ENnies!!!
« on: July 21, 2009, 01:35:23 PM »
Hi folks!

By now, I hope you've heard that Return to Northmoor was nominated for an ENnie award!!!

It's a great honor to be nominated, as only the top 5 TPG podcasts from all the ones submitted made the nomination list.

As the only Spooky Outhouse network show to be nominated, we're hoping you all can help us out!

We'd love your vote, of course (voting opens July 24th here: http://www.ennie-awards.com/nominations/nominees.asp ), we'd also love your help in putting together a voting guide for the other categories, so that people who may not be familiar with the other categories have some guidance on how to vote!

So below is a list of all the nominees (with my comments), if you have thoughts on who people should vote for in each category, respond to this post with your thoughts!

Since we can't make it to Gen Con to buy drinks for our fellow nominees and supporters, we're having a contest!  If you post in this thread with your ideas and suggestions for any of the ENnie categories, you are automatically entered!  We'll randomly draw from the list of the posters to this thread, and send them a fabulous prize!

 Thanks for your support!

Campaign Updates / Where We Are
« on: May 12, 2009, 11:22:27 AM »
Just a quick update on where the 'real time' RtN campaign is at.

The show is coming up on the end of season 2, which is just after the exit from the Temple of Art, and the return to the Lost Village.

In real time, we're almost at the end of season 4.

So, what do you have to look forward to?

Season 1: Return to the Lost Village, Death of the Raftman, Discovery of the Mentor's connection to the Star Temples (and their history), Discovery of Descendence from the Bel-Alaquans.

Season 2: Exploration of Bel-Alaqua: The Temple of Blood, The Temple of Art, discovery of the Chaos Cult and the Maproom.

Season 3: Return to the Outpost to prove that friends of the group are not traitors to the crown.

Season 4: Return to the Feywild to seek a cure for a poisoned friend, and to set right the throne of an Eladrin City.  Discovery of the purpose and history of the Star Temples.

Season 5: Return to the Lost Village to find the thief of an Eladrin treasure that is connected to the Star Temples, and present proof that their friends are not traitors.  Thwart the plans of the Merchant Guild in the Lost Village.  Discovery of connection between the Merchant Guild and someone thought long dead.

So, that's what's coming up folks!  What are you looking forward to finding out?

Tim

In this episode, Tim and Kim go over the scenes for the eighth session of play. We go over all the scenes from this session, and lay out the feel of each, so you can hit the materials well-prepared to run it.

The discussion topic is around resurrection in D&D, as well as whether you should call a minion a minion.

Scenes in this Session, entitled "Temple of Art, Part II":

1) The Amphitheater of Beauty - A final showdown with the evil sahuagin, who want to use your Mentor to raise their Baron!

2) The Workroom- A fiery guardian watches over the vault, where raw gold, gems, and silver are stored, can you outwit him?

In this episode, Tim and Kim go over the scenes for the seventh session of play. We go over all the scenes from this session, and lay out the feel of each, so you can hit the materials well-prepared to run it.

The discussion topic is around moral dilemmas - are they an important part of tying the PCs to the story, or are they pointless and frustrating?

Scenes in this Session, entitled “Temple of Art, Part II”:

1) The Hall of Masters - Art is an interactive activity - Will the PCs hobby be represented? What’s with the mucky track through this beautiful room!?

2) The Residence Hall - Where the curator and his daughter lived and worked. Things have gotten a big buggy.

3) Ramardal’s Chambers - The curator’s chambers are full of wonders, and answers about the past. But will the

4) Alanada’s Chambers - The high priestess of the temple, a pristine young woman who’s body has been defiled by hideous bugs.

5) The Hall of People - The companion hall to the Hall of Nature, it contains a concealed door to a large dumbwaiter that might contain a tentacle surprise.

This episode isn't out until 4/27/2009, but for those who have been asking for an 'unedited' actual play, I've posted the uncut version of the AP from this session as an early present for our Forum Faithful. Enjoy!

It's a big, long file, and hopefully by listening to it you'll get a feel for why I do so much editing. :D

Thanks all!

General Northmoor Discussion / Premium Content?
« on: April 08, 2009, 11:53:13 AM »
Hey there -

One of the things we've been considering for a while is adding Premium Content to Return to Northmoor.  Materials that go above and beyond what we already provide for free.  This content would be available for purchase from the Return to Northmoor website for low (less than $5 per item) fees.

In our interview with Fred Hicks from OneBadEgg.com (definitely go check out their stuff), he mentioned a model where you could pay $20 up front, which would get you ~$25 of purchasing power.  (Sort of like XBOXLive Points).  We would probably do something like that, rather than a subscription-type setup.

Here are some ideas we had for premium content:
Detailed Maps of locations like the Lost Village and the Hole on the Water Inn
Full Stats for NPCs like the Bogman, Raftman, Mentor, etc.
Journals from NPCs like Alanada
Side-quest adventures taking place in the Lost Village, the Lost Bog, etc.
Uncut full-length actual play audio downloads  (large and expensive-to-store files)
Higher-quality versions of our main episodes (less file compression, better bitrates)
Art, such as NPC character sketches, location views, etc.
CDs with episodes and content

A lot of these things we'd basically only charge for because we have to pay other people to make them.  Other things are 'optional extras' that we would write above and beyond our normal materials.

Since we can't commit to a regular release schedule for materials, we'd want to avoid a subscription model, not to mention that some materials might be of more interest to some people than others.

Thoughts?  Would people be interested in consuming or contributing stuff like this?  Probably not something we'd be able to jump on right away, but we're trying to look to the future...

Cheers,

Tim
