General Northmoor Discussion / Return to Northmoor Interactive Map
« on: October 01, 2008, 03:13:00 PM »
Hi there -

So, I worked with the ever-professional Keith Curtis to design a Return to Northmoor map.

You can check it out here:  http://vargoth.com/northmoor/map/

The map background is gorgeous thanks to Keith, but the markers are still coming along due to a bug I discovered in Google Web Toolkit's Google Maps implementation.  The Google developers are working on a fix.  As soon as it's fixed, I'll be able to add more stuff to the map.

But for now, you can use it to see where the Session 1 and Session 2 stuff takes place!

You can also zoom in and out, and pan around by grabbing and dragging (since it's a customized Google Map).

Eventually, people who are running their own version of Return to Northmoor will be able to customize a copy of map to match their version of things!

Coming soon, Google Street View in the Lost Village! (Actually, probably not...I mean, who would be able to drive around in the the village taking pictures?   ;) )

 Cheers,

Tim

General Discussion / Return to Northmoor Contest Ideas?
« on: September 30, 2008, 09:11:42 AM »
So, I have a shrink-wrapped copy of WotC's "Keep on the Shadowfell" that I'd like to give away on Return to Northmoor, but I'm not sure what the best way to do the contest would be.

I think the safest way would be something like "everyone who posts on the Return to Northmoor boards in the month of October is automatically entered to win", and then randomly draw a name on November 1st.

Any other ideas?

The Podge Cast / Dragon*Con Recap
« on: September 26, 2008, 02:13:38 PM »
So I just caught up with listening to the Dragon*Con recap show, and I must say that my favorite moment was Eve telling Adam:

"You were so drunk it was annoying".
"No, it was awesome".
"Um, everyone in the elevator thought you were a drunken @$$."
"No, it was awesome".
"No, seriously you were really annoying."
"No, it was awesome".

I think they fully succeeded in defining what drunkenness often is - annoying as hell to everyone but the drunk people. :)

So I think that Adam needs to volunteer to entertain people in the registration line next year, like those people at Disney that entertain you in the line for Space Mountain. ;)

The Pimphouse / Decoder Ring Theater
« on: September 09, 2008, 08:02:09 PM »
I must pimp the Decoder Ring Theater podcast, produced by Gregg Taylor up in the Toronto area.

An amazing suite of shows that take the radio drama of yesteryear, such as Sam Spade or Green Hornet, or the Shadow, and tune it up for modern times without losing that classic feel.

I am a big fan of all their shows, but you really must listen to the later Black Jack Justice episodes...they are just plain fun.

The Pimphouse / Audiobooks I Love
« on: September 09, 2008, 07:59:25 PM »
I must pimp my favorite audiobooks everywhere I go, because they are free, and because they rock:

1) Shadowmagic, by John Lenahan.  A rollicking tale of learning who your father really is, and why that matters.

2) The Trader's Tale Series by Nathan Lowell.  A sweet and deeply engrossing tale of a young man forced to join the crew of a merchant ship or be booted off his home planet.  Extremely compelling.

Post your comments here for Episode 2 - Session 1 - The Narrows.

In this episode, Tim and Kim go over the scenes for the first session of play.  In the first half of the show, we go over each scene, and NPC in detail, so that you can be prepared to run this session.  In the second half of the show, we give tips on running it as interestingly as possible, and ideas on variations to suit your group.

Scenes in this Session:

1) The Narrows - The Blackwater Cat raft has to anchor on a sandbar when they discover another raft has gotten stuck in the narrow part of the river in front of them.  What lurks where they anchor?

2) The Evening Rumor Exchange - Having pulled over to camp for the night near the crew of the other raft, the group has the opportunity to exchange rumors, drink, and perhaps more…

3) Midnight Homonculus - A visitor arrives in the middle of the night seeking an object on the raft that event the Raftmaster didn’t know they were carrying.  Will they give it up, or fight off the invader?
