And I meant Jack Benny and Fred Allen. While they had individual shows, their "rivalry" was one of the great faux conflicts in early television history. They had great sketches together.
I must have missed those.

I must have missed those. I have the Best of Jack Benny 4-disc set. You can borrow it next time you come over.

Voted for best movie sequel, it seems like the topic with the most potential for heated discussion and namecalling. I'm actually surprised the suggestion wasn't "worst movie sequel" though, given how bad sequels often are.
Also, this is probably something to be clarified before the event, should the topic win through: are we talking sequel as in specifically the second movie in any given series of 2 or more movies, or a sequel in the sense of any movie that follows an original one (which would open the field to contenders like Superman 4, Alien 3, etc.)

A sequel is just the next step, so Superman 4 is a possibility if not a realistic candidate.

I voted for best comedy tv show... And my vote is for SCTV. *Loved* that show. Their send up of the Godfather movies remains one of the funniest things I have ever seen.

I voted for best comedy duo/trio because I'm an individual Best movie sequel will be equally as good, just as long as Evil Dead II is up there.

Thanks to Matt for introducing me to a use for graph paper that had never. . . EVER. . . crossed my mind.
I very much enjoyed hearing from Aron. I just started reading his stuff when Ideology started popping up in the SOP feed and have become a fan.
The show got me thinking about my local gaming community. I would say my town has a pretty good community but why? Is it because it's a smaller town? Is it because we're a college town? Is it because we are just a bunch of neighborly midwesteners? After thinking about it I decided that the only component that I could definitely identify was our excellent FLGS. Growing up there were two local stores that didn't do much to encourage a community. Then in 2000 a new gmaing store opened. It was named Valhalla's Gate and it was fantastic. It was large, clean, well-stocked with a diverse selection and plenty of open gaming space. From the beginning the owners worked to encourage everybody to come and play together. Honestly, I can't say enough for them or their contribution to our local gaming. If you are ever in Columbia, MO I highly recommend stopping by.
What does everybody else think contributes to a strong local gaming community.

To be fair to the Danger Room, it made an effort to build a community. It just didn't make an effort to maintain the community. And for all my travels, Valhalla's Gate is the best gaming store anywhere. It truly is an amazingly run shop.

The Danger Room ran some GW leagues but the space was bad and they lacked organization. However they were better then the Chesire Cat.

To answer your previous question, it's not just the store that helps build the community, it's the community itself. The people that come to participate impact whether other people come and whether they keep coming. Fun people attract other fun people.

Ok. My picks. Best movie sequel for me. The Empire Strikes Back. I mean as a kid I had never seen a movie where the good guys lose and lose as badly as what I saw on the big screen. Losing a hand. Becoming a Hutt's carbonite bitch. And then realizing with horror that you wish you were adopted before you fall stories down. And Billy Dee Williams has a cape, but he doesn't have any Colt 45 on hand.

Gotta be best movie sequels! I mean, Bond will win, right? From Russia With Love was much better than Dr. No, which was also a great movie. Well, seeing as Dr. No is the only Bond film I have liked out of the handful I have seen, this makes me very interested. To quote from my Bond Movie Rankings post: 2. Dr. No The first of them, and while it is not as confident a movie as FRWL, it holds its own with a great characterization of Bond. Unfortunately, the McGuffin is very sci-fi and the movie feels to me like it is searching for the proper way to bring Bond to the screen. Great but not FRWL great.
And the best Bond movie of them all:
1. From Russia With Love With only the second movie of the franchise, it hit its stride. This is the melding of the Bond of the novels with the movie medium. He can’t be the cold, rough killer of the novels, but we can make him damn tough and damn callous. Further, this is a spy story, about a decoding machine, with both an exotic locale and excellent characters. Other than the crazy killing shoes, this one stays firmly on the ground.
