Announcing BATTLECAST 3
« on: May 14, 2009, 08:51:43 AM »
Please join us for our quarterly throw-down, the challenge of the best of the best, might makes right, etc vs etc! Tuesday, June 16, 2009, the PodgeCast presents BATTLECAST! Matt, Luke, A. David, and Joe broadcast live and you the listener have the chance to participate! We're modifying our current format to allow a more balanced input by the listeners.

Each host proposes in a round-robin format his proposal for Best Comedy Television Series Ever, stating reasons why he thinks so along with brief rebuttal and/or snide remarks from the other hosts. If there is a tie, the audience votes using Ustream's polling function to decide the winner. The audience also gets to nominate four of their own candidates. We will take two-three nominations from the crowd and let you vote on which one you want to be the audience-selected option (this way we won't have a repeat of something like Clerks 2 beating out Last Crusade just because a bunch of listeners spam the list while we're looking). And then the battle begins!

We will work our way down to the Best. Comedy Television Series. Evar!!!!!

When: 8:30pm Eastern Daylight Time (GMT-5), Tuesday, June 16, 2009
Where: http://www.ustream.tv/channel/the-podge-cast

Video of the hosts will be recorded but not streamed during the recording. Audio and audio+video versions of the episode will be released as part of our usual release schedule. The video file will include a recording of the chat log and will be released whenever David gets off his butt on our website outside of the normal blog roll..

About editing the video or about the date? If the former, you're the only one who can. If the latter, you agreed to it yesterday.

Blackadder and Red Dwarf strongly disagree with you Rib  :P

In fact I'm going to name Men Behaving Badly, Only Fools and Horses, and the Simpsons as further proof of how wrong you already are.

And so it begins. :)

(And incidentally, neither of you have listed the actual winner yet.)

I Love Lucy
The Dick Van Dyke Show
The Mary Tyler Moore Show
Cheers
Taxi

I've never watched an episode of Scrubs, haven given up on sitcoms about ten years ago.

The Young Ones, Porridge and Fawlty Towers are the only others I can think of currently.  Yes, I am very much along the British lines.  Most of the American shows just don't do it for me.

Fawlty Towers, definitely. I don't think the Young Ones stands the test of time as well. I know nothing about Porridge.

I've been pondering the Dick Van Dyke Show and/or Mary Tyler Moore. I know Lucille Ball is a seminal comedian, but I never liked the show. I didn't care for the schtick and the whining was just grating.

I'm surprised Brad hasn't mentioned Are You Being Served given his love for British comedy.

I liked Cheers, but I thought Frasier was much better.  I can't speak for any of the others, as I haven't seen them.
I have the rabbies!

While Frazier and Niles were funny, I thought the rest of the cast pretty bland. I seem to like ensemble comedies.

Really, I liked when they had guest shots of Lillith, and I thought Fraziers Dad and Eddie were pretty cool too.

Would Robot Chicken qualify?  That show kills me.  What about stuff like Family guy and South Park?  Are we limited to non-animated stuff?

I don't think RC is a sitcom, so no. Family Guy and South Park should qualify.
