WOTG Ep 33 - Brad is awesome
« on: August 04, 2010, 12:18:37 AM »
I probably would have given some more in depth answers to a few questions if I'd realised that I'd be the only one contributing  ;D  Also makes me wish that I'd made some arrangements to get on the show, although I'm guessing that I would have hijacked it to talk about Australian issues, to the delight of less than 1% of your listeners.

My $30 a month sounds okay but then I really thought about the specifics of that figure.  Our exchange rates are fairly good, that $30 currently equaling $27US but the real kicker is, as mentioned, the price difference for games here.  To use Starcraft II as the current example: $98AU EB Games $60US Gamestop.  That's a hefty difference so clearly my money buys a lot less than it would in your hands.  Basically I'd probably buy one game a year at full price (3 months worth) and everything else is bargain bin.

Also if someone can explain why Australia pays an extra $20 for the digital version of Borderlands, I'm still waiting for a logical answer.  ???

My PS2 was bought 4 years after they came out.  It came with a single Sony controller and a $10 'other brand' controller.  I got a single memory card and both Pro Evolution Soccer 2 and some other crap game that escapes my recollection.  I may have also payed $50 for an extended warranty which I look back on and laugh about, as I'm sure everyone does at some stage in their life.  I still can't believe what I actually forked out for that console.

A big reason for all the hours and enjoyment for 2142 were down to my two friends who played it with me on an almost nightly basis, as well as my involvement in The Older Gamers clan, which provided arguably the best server around.  I can't stand random multiplayer gaming but TOG did a great job of building a community and ensuring that the servers were really well looked after and kept dickhead free.  Game wise it wasn't technically the best shooter I've played but all the other factors pushed it to a level above.

I'm sure there were other things I wanted to mention but I'll need to go back through the episode.

Hey!  Check your voice-mail thingydoodle again.  You got at least one other, awkward, stuttery response.  I should know, I did it.

Thumbs up to Neo for bringing up Dynasty Warriors Gundam 2.  Here I thought I was the only person who was ever interested in that.  It's got all the cathartic ass-kicking entertainment of Dynasty Warriors, only with more explosions, more mobility, and greater variety of special attacks!  What's not to love?

Giant.
Fighting.
Robots.

I love it.  And the parts and skills give an upgrade system that keeps you playing.  I've clocked over 50 hours into that game.  Glad to run into someone else who digs it.

It didn't hurt the game's chances at all that I'm a pretty massive Gundam Fanboy to start with.  Getting the chance to beat the unholy shit out of Amuro in a pink red mobile suit was selling point enough.

I love beating the hell out of many of the characters.  However, beating the hell out of Amuro as Char in many of his "normal" suits is entertaining.  As is hearing Master Asia and Domon be overdramatic as they get beaten down is pretty funny.

Adding any G Gundam character to anything except G Gundam is guaranteed to make it ten times more awesome and/or hilarious.  This is a scientifically proven fact.

I hate to break up the Gundam lovefest, but...

I'll double check it when I get home, but all I've ever gotten are empty messages from an unknown 800 number. I sure as hell hope Google didn't the message. Me and G have had issues lately.

You're probably better off without it.  Phones and I don't get along.  I much prefer my nice, safe, editable text.

You and me both. The podcast is better because it's a conversation. Answering machines are the bane of my existence.

Amen to that.  I don't do so bad when there's someone else there listening, but just talking to nothing?  Can't do it.

Then again, the other problem is lack of editability.  That sentence used to read "I don't so bad when someone else listening" ....  out loud, I'm kind of stuck with what comes out of my mouth, and that's never a good thing.

Yeah.  I sent in a few responses to the podcast A View From The Fence.  I tried calling, but never worked up the courage to go through with it.  Finally, I started recording it on the computer, and then edited out all the ridiculously long pauses and other awkwardness.  That made it a lot better, and was my first real foray into podcasting.

I did find your message, so at least I know it didn't get eaten.  I just never received a notice that it was there, which is annoying.  I'll have to actively check the "machine" more often.

Here, I'll make it easy for you:  From now on, if I respond to anything via your answering machine, I'll start four threads, send you six PMs, and email you once an hour until it's been confirmed that you received my message, so that I am not slighted as I was here.  *sniffle*  I'm awesome too, damn it!

Now I feel bad for not filling out the survey.  I was actually surprised how little the hosts pay for video games every month.  I don't consider myself a rich guy but I usually drop at least $50 in some way on video games each month.  Last month it was a bit higher as I just bought a ps3.  I anticipate my spending to take another radical jump once I throw down the bones to buy an HD tv.  I'm discovering that SD sucks when trying to make out any text in any ps3 game.

Dude, what can I say. I'm cheap. The recession has sucked for my household and corners must be cut. At least I can live vicariously through you and Neosect.

You are making me reconsider getting a second job with your gamespot talk.  Is it worth it?  I'd only want to work another job if it wouldn't be torture.
