My Pumpkin Pushers (goblin) faced off against Brad's Brisbane Drop Bears (Pro Elf). I was gearing up for mutilated AV7 elf bodies, and used my 110 TV inducements to get 2 bribes (because goblin bribes are 50k now).
I started off receiving, and was ready with my chainsaw at the LOS... and the ball lands right next to my TD zone. I stun an elf with the chainsaw, but then I uncharacteristically decide to try picking up the ball first with my AG3, rather than leave it lying there and let the elves swarm my half. So of course my goblins fail the pick-up, and the turn ends without me even doing anything damaging to the elves. So they injure the chainsaw off the field and swarm my half. On my turn I try to dodge a goblin out of a tackle zone, to maximize how close to the ball I can move all of my people if that just works, to get him adjacent to a troll... and he fails the dodge, and I curse AG3. So the elves pick up the ball and score.
Turn 3, I receive again. This time I have Bombardier on the field. I manage to get the ball (because the whole game was all about High Kicks) and cage that goblin while bashing up elves. It's a slow, methodical drive, with my trolls going stupid at the worst times, and the Bombardier explodes his bomb in his face, but I manage on turn 8 to do a dodge + double-GFI to tie the game. At this point I realize I haven't fouled even once, and mentally kick myself, thinking the game lost.
Second half, elves walk in, pass and score, making the game 2-1. I didn't even bother doing much to hinder that, beyond trying to throw a goblin close to their backfield elf with the ball. He landed on his face.
Once I got the ball again, I caged up at the LOS, and that's where we spent many turns after that. The elves boxed us in, which I was happy about, because my peeps started KO/stunning them, and I was able to make a dodge and run away with the lone ball-carrier when I realized that most of their force was a) on their backs b) in my backfield. This is the spot where Bombardier proved his worth, doing accurate tosses to stun elves at perfect times.
Elves could only rush one Catcher back there to pose any threat, so I fouled one elf off the field and caged up. They made a desperation effort to box my cage, which meant that I could punch them out of the way and go score on the last turn. Befofe that, I threw a bomb at an elf, and he caught it, and aimed it half a field down at my ball-carrier... I held my breath... and the bomb blew up in the elf's face. Such a fitting end to the game.
End result: 2-2 tie. In goblinese, that is a VICTORY. The flaws in our gameplans were that I didn't foul enough, while Brad scored too fast when he received (leaving me plenty of time to score back). I'm happy with the result, because it's better than I expected against elves.
