[Minecraft] Tartarus
« on: April 14, 2011, 02:15:38 AM »
Just wanted to start a thread to keep track of our plans.  Right now the Hands Brotherhood has established a mountain outpost just past The Great Desert far northwest of The Castle of Fire. We have a fairly well-defended tower and two deep mines, one of which opened into a dungeon.  The dungeon is clear, but several wings remained unexplored.

Stingray, after you logged our tower got swarmed by creepers. I kept the damage minimal and worked on making the entryway as creeper-proof as possible. We have several choke points now, but could use some more (while trying to keep the aestetic).

Stingray, I'd like to share a useful tip since we'll be delving into the same depths. When exploring a new cavern I only place torches on the right side. This makes it very easy to find my way back to the origin as I just keep all the placed torches on the left. I only break this rule if there's an area that needs lighted in order to prevent spawning. It's simple and a huge help.

Plans:
-Somehow a skeleton got into our cellar. We should deal with that and figure out how he spawned.
-I have went through a good portion of our primary mine and named the various wings to make it easier to navigate. There are still unexplored portions.
-I'd like to build a sandstone fort in the nearby desert area and, in general, spread out. We're well into the frontier but there are a lot of new players. I don't want any coming and settling too close if we can help it.
-Once we stake our full claim I want to build a road back to civilization.

It's more Legos than Lincoln Logs. If you guys haven't been playing it you're missing out. I played a ton in the alpha and took a few month break before the beta. The beta added a ton of new features including pets now.

It used to be that you couldn't have monsters in multiplayer. Since they fixed that it's a lot more fun. The server we play on is called Elysium and it's been around for several months. The main world, Elysium, is huge and very well developed. It's a long walk into the frontier before you can find some good unclaimed space. There's a number of really cool projects people made, including a huge Star Destroyer.  Every season there is a server holiday that people contribute to celebrating (Gravelmas, Notch Day) which can be a lot of fun.

Other than Elysium, there's Tartarus, an alternate world you get to via portal where monsters spawn. That's where most everyone is now and it's a whole different game since you can't build peacefully.   A bunch of the folks on the server have made up a game by mimicking Dwarf Fortress. Some people will come in and mark what needs to be dug and built and then players do it. They're having fun with it.  Stringray and I decided to set out on our own and headed for the wilds (no easy task since nightime is full of horror).

Anyway, it's legos with monsters and dungeons. And new features get added weekly.  Good times.

Had to burn the forest by the tower as creepers were spawning on top of the trees. I comissioned Vader to come over and build a "Giant Stone Hand" monument to commemorate the Brotherhood.  He did okay. Not sure if we should keep it. Let me know what you think.

Every time I log onto the server, everything is changed.  :-)  I dunno about the hand.... It could use some work.  It's more of a ridiculously long arm with a tiny hand on it.
Can't say more. Joe says I have to write.

Yeah, I don't know if it's worth keeping.  We'll see.

The big changes are due to accidental rob who built the air bridge to his home.  I agree with his methods. It's time to expand.

Stingray, heard water past the magma pool you found in you speculations inside The Wizard. Found a huge monster-filled cavern and managed to take out a ton of skeletons, creepers, and slimes. I mined gold and diamond to my heart's content before losing it all to lava.

The Hand Brotherhood's lands are coming along. We even pulled some folks in to fight a giant zombie that spawned.

Just picked this up, and although I have only been doing single player so far, I am hooked. Would love to get down on some multiplayer with some decent folks. If there is anyway in, please let me know. Would be glad to help clear out monster and make more giant holes in the earth.

I have posted in this thread to be whitelisted, but if you happen to be on at the same time as Luke, he can get you fast-tracked apparently.

@Zen: Just head over to this thread and ask. The thread also contains the address.

For all those joining the Hand Brotherhood just hit up one of us when you're on (my ID is "lucias") and we can escort you to our lands since there's currently no road. If no one else is on (/playerlist), head through the portal in spawn to Tartarus then follow the signs to Woodvale. From Woodvale follow the line of torches south to our lands.

Eventually, I'll get some roads built.

The server rules are easy, basically don't be a dick. Don't steal from people, destroy other's propertly, or encroach on their land.

As for the Hand Brotherhood, the only pseudo-rule we have is that structures should be built on hills surrounding the valley except for mines and farms. It's not a big deal, but by building all of our stuff on top of hills we've kinda got a solid theme going for our lands.

Or I've just been playing on and off on this server since it launched and am cool with the mods. :)

One mod, Dragavan, some of you may know from back-in-the-day on the Fear the Boot forums. Cool guy.

Actually, virtually everyone is cool and helpful, only one or two people seem to be jerks. And by jerks, I mean they say annoying stuff in chat, not that they tear your stuff down.

Also, useful commands to know.

In Elysium (the peaceful spawn world) you can warp all over the place. The spawn has boards with various locals. You warp by typing /warp location  (/warp newhaven).  Tartarus doesn't have these warps.

You can always warp to spawn (/spawn) and home (/home), even in Tartarus.  To warp home you have to set a home first (/home set).  You can also invite others to warp to your home (/home invite name).

You can see who is online with /playerlist.

You can change chat channels, too, but I don't recall how. Going to have to look that one up.
