Welcome to the next installment of Captain’s Journey. In case you have missed the previous parts, here they are in order. Bad Dreams Call the Question Dreams Remembered Desperate Measures Consequences Revelation Picking up the Pieces Identity Ship First Contact Pirates Danger Close *** ”Transport ship. You are now free from pursuit. Do you need assistance to continue your journey?” “Many greetings and much praise to you for our timely rescue. To whom do we owe this immense gratitude?” “I am Captain Thelan Jaxx of the Chikara. Your thanks is greatly appreciated. Is your ship in good enough repair to continue your journey?” “Yes. The damage is minimal and our slipspace drive should be back online momentarily.” “I am glad to hear it. I will stick around until you are able to make the jump to ensure there are no further troubles on this leg of your journey.” “You are to kind to us Captain Jaxx. May the Great Ocean welcome you home when you return!” I close the comms and shake my head. “I have no clue what that means. I’m going to take it as good thing and move on.” I plop back down behind my console and punch up the last jump coordinates. I have everything reset to take us out of this system and set me back on my path. It takes about fifteen minutes for the transport ship to finally make the jump and leave me drifting alone in space. I waste no time in....

My comics reading has a definite super hero bent. If I go off book, my tendency is to head towards fantasy or science fiction. The crime genre really isn’t even on my radar when I am browsing at my local comic shop. I have to thank Aron for changing my perspective on this. He provided me with Volume two of Thief of Thieves. Before the howls of nerdrage begin, I am aware I am not starting at the beginning. I have never had the need to start at that point. My gestalt is strong enough that I fill in the blanks to make the reading easy. When I go back to the beginning, I am pleasantly surprised when things I had filled are true or handled even better. This story arc begins as Conrad’s son, Augustus, has been rescued from several jobs gone wrong. He is not as good a thief as his father. Their first section of the story is entitles Free but not clear. We get to watch as the botched job just keeps coming back to haunt Augustus. The cops make sure they know they are watching him. The cartel he was working for want their money and are willing to make him pay dearly for it. Conrad is struggling to make his retirement stick. The problem is that all the effort to keep his son free means that lots of people are owed. Their price is to keep him in the game. Asmus’ storytelling flows very....

I was perusing my list of books to read the other day and realized that the amount of science fiction on the list was really rather short. My tastes, as of late have tended towards the urban fantasy and paranormal romance genres. The few science fiction titles had been sadly dejected and I determined to correct this egregious error. The title on my list that really sparked my interest was God’s War by Kameron Hurley. I had to visit a few book stores before I finally found a copy and gleefully took it home to read. The book was wonderful. It is the gritty story of Nyx and her team as they are set up on the path to ferret out a deadly conspiracy. We are introduced to Nyx as she struggles to complete her latest job. She has lost everything in the pursuit of one boy that has fled the front lines. In a world ravaged by centuries of biological warfare, those that flee the front put whole nations at risk of contamination. Thus Nyx has sacrificed everything, even her womb, to catch this latest note. It is this last sacrifice that costs her the position in the Bel Dames, the Royal Assassins. What follows is the story of her rebuilding doing the only thing she knows how, bounty hunting. She builds a team and works hard to make everything work. Redemption is dangled before in a note from the Queen herself. If her team can find a missing alien and return her to the....

Business: Tell us what you’re hungry for in the comments or on Twitter or wherever else, and you could win a copy of Don’t Starve on Steam.
News: EA gets exclusive rights to the Star Wars license from Disney. Gamers everywhere weep.
Games: Jonathan fell down the rabbit holes that are Frog Fractions and Candy Box. Both are free browser games that explore the history of gaming through utter randomness. Sam has beaten Uncharted 2: Electric Boogaloo, and he likes that they fixed some stuff, but dislikes quite a bit more. Alex has played next to nothing this week.
Topic: Microsoft will be giving us details of their next console on May 21st, so we thought we’d talk a bit about what we expect to see and what we want to see. We derail at the start talking about how we’re not likely to even want the next Xbox, but we eventually get back on track and pretend to be interested. Cable TV integration, social gaming, the future of Xbox Live; what do you think we’re going to see?
